A little about Gerbils
Gerbils are very social animals and MUST be housed together in sets of 2 or more. This lets them have somebody to play with while you are away, and keeps them friendly. A lone Gerbil can become aggressive and will shorten there life span. They are very territorial when it comes to strange Gerbils coming into there home(if over about 3-4 months old). So please, never place a new gerbil into the same cage as your others. If needed, you can place a divider into the cage so they can get to know eachother without being able to hurt eachother. This is the ONLY way this will work without someone getting seriously injured or even killed. Make sure to give your Gerbil plenty of wood to chew on, as there teeth are constantly growing. This will help keep there teeth trimmed down. They need assorted fruits and veggies daily with there seeds, oats, ect for a proper diet. This gives them more variety, instead of getting the same food every day. Wouldnt that get old? :) And you should replace there watter daily to keep it fresh!
Gerbils LOVE digging in bedding making tunnels and playing. It is in there nature to dig into the ground. A aquarium filled up almost to the top with bedding(with a cage topper on top for extra room) will give your gerbil plenty of room to run and play while also giving them much to dig and tunnel through! Also a wheel is a must for proper excersize :). But please do not her the metal kind with the little homes nor even just the bars for the floor of the wheel. I cannot stress this enough! They can get there little feet caught in them and get seriously hurt. Follow these basic instructions, and you will have a very happy gerbaby!!
